“I did apologize for that, didn’t I? In any case that was unfortunate and I am sorry about it. If it makes you feel any better, you’re the reason I never touched another one of her boyfriends. If it doesn’t help and you want a shot, I won’t stop you. Go ahead and take it.” he said, standing relaxed, arms at his sides.
“Yeah, yeah. I ain’t gonna punch you, Kit’d kill me. Hear you two tied the knot.” He scowled deeply.
“Yes, just recently actually.” he held up his left hand to show the platinum wedding band. ”It was a pretty small affair, all things considered and I’m sure she would have invited you if we had more time, or could have afforded a larger group. No slight was intended I assure you.”
“Mm. Prob’ly wouldn’t’a been able to make it, anyways.” He said, grumpily.

A few moments later there was a knock on his door, and TJ stood on tiptoe peering in the window with a smirk.
Pete grinned and got up, opening the door. He had a santa hat on his head- for TJ’s benefit only, and it was coming off asap- and a wide smile on his face as he ushered her in.
TJ laughed at the man’s appearance. “Oh my God, if Santa showed up at my place looking at you I might accidentally shoot him thinking he was a burglar.” She grinned. “Merry Christmas, ya scoundrel.”
“Oh, ta. An’ t’you.” He chuckled, bumping against her as he wandered into the kitchen, gesturing for her to follow. “Got Christmas Puddin’, but if you’d rather have dinner first I’ve got some ham left from the big day, an’ plenty t’drink.”

”Oh god, now I feel exposed,” he commented and grinned widely. “So, what brings you here? I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?”
“No, no. Just thought I’d say hello.” He said, smiling.
”Oh, I see… Any particular reason…?” he asked and tilted his head.
“Like t’keep an eye on people.” The ‘people who are children of people who can destroy the world’ went unsaid.
